ABSTRACT

Teaching evaluation is an important measure to test the teaching quality. In order to better achieve the training objectives among international medical students based on the specific conditions of foreign students and the characteristics of Human Parasitology, a process-based assessment and evaluation system has been established for international medical students. The process assessment highlights the characteristics of assessment process, diversified forms and inquires of test questions. Following implementation of process assessment, the proportion of excellence (examination scores of 90 and higher) improved from 3.25% (10/308) to 13.09% (50/382) (t = 5.995, P < 0.001) and the proportion of good marks (examination scores of 80 to 89) increased from 18.83% (58/308) to 36.13% (138/382) (t = 7.505, P < 0.001) during the semester assessment among international medical students at five grades, while the proportion of failure in examination pass (examination scores of below 60) reduced from 12.34% (38/308) to 3.24% (10/382) (t = 7.303, P < 0.000 1), indicating that the process-based assessment and evaluation system improves the examination score of Human Parasitology among international medical students and the teaching quality of Human Parasitology.

ABSTRACT

Small private online course (SPOC), an emerging network-based, student-centered blended teaching model, combines the advantages of online teaching and flipped classroom, aiming to effectively improve students’ autonomous learning ability and learning efficiency. Considering a remarkable decline in the course of Human Parasitology, we built an SPOC-based blended teaching model for Human Parasitology, covering pre-course learning, intra-course leaning, post-course consolidation and evaluation, and such a model was applied among grade 2019 students with specialty of clinical medicine. Following the application of the SPOC-based blended teaching model, most students had improvements in autonomous learning ability and activity, and understanding of human parasitology knowledge, and the examination score disparity was avoided.

ABSTRACT

The mixed teaching model combines the advantages of traditional teaching and network teaching in the “Internet +” era, which has become one of the important trends in the higher education teaching development. In order to follow this development trend, the human parasitology teaching team makes a reasonable use of modern information techniques, actively promotes the construction and application of online resources, and conducts mixed online and offline teaching based on MOOC resources and the experimental teaching digital platform. This mixed teaching model has shown a positive impact on both teaching and learning among teachers and students; however, students’ personalized independent and deep learning remains unsatisfactory. It is suggested that the online course resources construction, teaching design and digital literacy remain to be increased, so as to create a high-level, innovative and challenging online-offline mixed “golden course”
